ABOUT GOLDEN REEDS
The search for the golden reed is the holy grail of bassoon playing.
I have spent over 15 years experimenting with reed design and learning from some of the best reedmakers in Europe to find the perfect design. Every bassoonist has their preferred style of bassoon reed but the reed method I have established is one that produces high-quality, consistent and well-balanced reeds that suit players with a variety of different tastes. And all of this with the unparalleled stylish golden binding that comes as standard with Golden Reeds!
ABOUT ME
I am a professional bassoonist based in London where I studied at the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. I have performed with some of the UK's leading orchestras including the Royal Opera House orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Philharmonia.
I have been selling reeds for over 10 years and have left no stone unturned in the search for the perfect reed. As a professional bassoonist I know well the importance of having a reed that does everything you want it to do and have made it my mission to create the best possible reeds that money can buy, so that rather than constantly adjusting and scraping and worrying about their reeds, bassoon players cane focus solely on what's most important as a musician:
making music!
My research into reed design has encompassed all areas, testing every possible variant: cane type, profile, shape, gouge thickness, scraping techniques, and many more. Golden Reeds is the culmination of two decades of reed research, to produce well-balanced reeds that speak effortlessly in all registers, as easily at fff as at ppp, with good tuning, easy control and flexibility, and a beautiful golden tone.
